Title: A Real Symptom

Poem: Night terrors distorting caress
Salty emotions I can’t suppress
She don’t understand
Says I let the mood swings control me

When I sleep 8 to 9 hours
And tire in the afternoon
She says I’m over-medicated
The apple of my Eve

I try to tell her 7 and a half to 9 hours
Sleep per night and a short 20 nap
Is the way our bodies were meant to function
She says she doesn’t know anybody who sleeps that much
And any doctor will tell you that’s too much

She says I’m smart
I’ve learned to play the disease
Says I give into it too easily

Yes, I do
But not for the reasons
She thinks
It’s the money I spend recklessly
When I am with her
That’s the DISEASE
And I do give in too easily… ...
