Poem: Yesterday I was tearful and exhausted
and fell early into a fretful sleep,
my nightmares tossing me into wakefulness
like sailing on a choppy sea.
This heavy despondency carries me
into a sullen morning,
vulnerability breaks open
like an ebbing of the tide
and sadness pools at lowest point.
Sounds become a mournful flute
but the heart is unstirred
by this haunting song.
The guiding light has been extinguished.
I cannot continue this way
confined to an everlasting maze
nor find my way back.
I spill my heavy energy into the room.
I cannot rouse myself from this torpor.
My spirit is waning like a candle
slowly burning itself into wax. ...
