There were moments that I can't easily think of, when I saw the surfaces shimmer like waves of heat, dissipating into the night. When I saw what lay beneath although I couldn't comprehend it. My grandfather entered my room like a soft-footed cat. As he closed the curtain behind him and came closer, what was there to do but remain close-eyed and disappear into waiting? Throughout the night my fears and I turned together. I don't know how he could do it, what he was thinking, as I broke into pieces. I didn't even have the words. I follow the footsteps where he has been, he pervades everything. I want to embrace life's goodness as well as its struggle and pain. Ultimately I want to dance victoriously over his form of damage and death. Speaking with my own words, that's the beginning.... |
