A barefoot step upon the ground in autumn's chill, Reveals the crack of bones all of death of barren braughts held so still, When all in plight, The robin flees in winter's fright, Yet for now a spirit soars o'er a deadened land, One last morsel for the flight, One last flutter of a sun-touched wing for my sight, Before the deadly cloak of winter's white, To fire my hope of incarnate, Of all that dies at autumn's gate... ... |
