Title: For Britt
Author: NickMack
Date Submitted: 10/24/2006

Poem: Withering, fading
Tears cascading
Unchecked, down both cheeks
Hands clasped, like the meek
and the mild,
As was taught when she was but a child.
Words are murmured, almost silently
“Reverse this”, beseeched of her Deity
Repeated again and again
For ’twas more than a friend
that was lost that day;
’twas her daughter the angels took away.
No reversals, it can’t be undone
She lifts her head towards the Sun
“Sleep, baby, sleep” she prays
The shroud of grief now melts against its warm rays
“Sleep gently and fear no harm,
We’ll miss you always, but don’t be alarmed:
For one day, we too shall come to end
of the path. We’ll have cheated Death,
and enter the most enchanting clearing.
Take comfort in th’ rainbows, angels and fairies
For we’ll see you yet,
But whilst we’re mortal, ne’er shall we forget,
the life that you lived and the joy, like no other,
for you were my one and only – my darling daughter.” ...
