When that shadow crawls into the breast - the savage beast who draws life from the soul - I place behind my back a solid wall, lest I should fall into that bleak abyss. I am alone, encircled by the night, and all manner of angels, who look on, yet cannot reach me through their mournful song, nor stop me bleed to death from their far height - but one, who reaches out his hand for me and gently draws my soul to easy rest; promises me oblivion''s caress, and blinds my darkened eyes from life to be. An unknown voice yet stills my shaking hand; A wind sends ruffles through the shifting sand.... |
