Title: Sonnet 21 “Sammael”
Author: Tamara Simpson
Date Submitted: 7/11/2012

Poem: When that shadow crawls into the breast -
the savage beast who draws life from the soul -
I place behind my back a solid wall,
lest I should fall into that bleak abyss.
I am alone, encircled by the night,
and all manner of angels, who look on,
yet cannot reach me through their mournful song,
nor stop me bleed to death from their far height -
but one, who reaches out his hand for me
and gently draws my soul to easy rest;
promises me oblivion''s caress,
and blinds my darkened eyes from life to be.
An unknown voice yet stills my shaking hand;
A wind sends ruffles through the shifting sand....
