what is it that sinks when the heart does? is it electricity in the lapses of the mind opening valves of hormones making a chest heave and sigh? or is it simply a thought weighty like an anchor on a boat so big it''s worse than a tacky cruise ship to Cartagena? why does the heart sink? why always in a synesthetic confusion of thought/feeling/emotion/experience? and why does it mean so much? it probably only burns a fraction of a fraction of a calorie. i don’t understand how a drop of honey metabolizes into this searing pain in the chest. how does a slice of mitochondria fuel this sunken feeling? i don’t know. it must be powered by something. i know the heart sinks. again and again and again. and i’ve lost weight. again and again and again.... |
