I was a child curled up behind the cook stove Six decades removed, five years old How all the time transposed me into you I became what I viewed Genes threaded and knotted like rosary beads I''m almost cursed Once my fixation, now my reflection Angst locked away in your skullcap You secretly knew I was your shadow box I preserved your own childhood So you could enjoy incognito I''m now a caricature of your past Quietly in your torment Enduring my demise with a smile Showing the attrition through my aging photo shots Enduring with a grin and loving attestation I thank you for giving me a worthwhile endeavor You are truly my loving Grandfather Laying in your box of death The church bell tolls ... |
