Lost the old ground of childhood All that I once loved beneath the earth Decades gone from my presence Except in reverie Broken lines on thought''s history The creek still babbles Elizabeth my grandmother dead still in the dank earth Living in the heartfelt existence of now Way back before my seasons of vagabonding Couldn''t find my way Not even through the young bodies of love and poetry Everything askew like a bolt of lightning Living in the uncomforting want Your soft golden voice What seemed eons gone Hands of grandma with her ghost like touch I live in a foreign land from your resting Your hand on me in my slumber I''''m always with you in time immemoriam And the solemn Requiem plays I''''ve raised my children or they''''ve nurtured me All in the exchanging seasons of life From caregiver to patient Seasons in the fields of fruition ... |
