Title: My Mania
Author: Melissa Brooke
Date Submitted: 9/4/2009

Poem: They say I am manic, depressive and sick
It’s all in my mind, my head playing tricks;
My thoughts are scrambled and make no sense
My mind is exhausted, my body turns tense;
She tries to convince me that I must obey
For her evil doings will show me the way;
Her name is Pandora and we are one the same
I once embraced her, played along in her game;
I feel the demons beginning to creep
Another long night without any sleep;
My chest is heavy and wants to explode
I don’t know how long I can carry this load;
I try to avoid her, block her out of my mind
She enters again, so cruel and unkind;
Her name is Pandora and we are one the same
I followed her guidance and caused lots of pain;
Wishing for happiness and wishing I were dead
A period of time passes while I’m in my own head;
Another episode has once again been survived
A chance to overcome, a life has been revived;
Her presence begins to fade and again I’m at peace
A feeling of comfort, an enormous release;
Her name is Pandora and we are one the same
Until the next episode, my own life I regain;
I force her back into her box of lies and deceit
She will not take me, I will not give up the feat;
Pandora, I promise that you shall not prevail
I will spend eternity among angels
while you’re rotting in hell!...
